Fly fishing trip to one of Scotlands premier salmon rivers – the North Esk. Fishmaster will arrange a hosted fly fishing trip to the Edzell beat on 16th-23rd March 2025. Jouni Rauha will work as a host for this fly fishing trip. The previous years same period there has been caught a good number of spring salmon, also called as springers.
Our fly fishing group of four persons will fish exclusively the private Edzell beat. Edzell fishing’s is situated in the middle section of the North Esk, about 11-16 km from the sea. The beat offers approximately 4,8 km of single (Right) bank fishing. Starting in a dramatic sandstone gorge at the Gannochy Bridge the river softens into a gravel bottom before the beat ends at the junction of the West Water.
There can be fish present throughout the season, numbers of spring fish are known to back up in the deeper pools until water temperatures rises allowing them to ascend over the loups to the upper river. Ladders have been constructed to access the steep gorge including the famous Big Gannochy pool. With the fishing now including the former middle beat section and with having carried out significant bank maintenance there are now 22 named pools to fish.
Accomodation for guests will be in a nice Scottish house about 10 minutes car drive from the Edzell beat. In the house there is a toilet, a shower, a large living room, a well equipped kitchen and four bedrooms. So there is a single person bedroom for each angler. We will cook the meals together in the accomodation.
